Communication driver
Read and write data
The following communication drivers extend the interoperability of ProMoS NG and enable comprehensive integration of various devices and systems in a wide range of applications, from building automation to industrial control systems.
Modbus RTU/TCP/ASCII / RTU over IP (all protocols as master or slave)
- Description: Modbus is one of the most widely used communication protocols in the automation and process industry. It is used for both serial and Ethernet-based communication.
- Field of application: Used for connecting PLCs, measuring devices and controllers in industrial applications, especially for remote monitoring and control of systems. Supports both master and slave operations.
OPC DA (2.05) - Windows client only
- Description: OPC DA (Data Access) is an older communication protocol that is used to transfer data between automation devices and software applications.
- Area of application: It is primarily used in Windows-based systems to enable seamless communication between process control and monitoring software.
OPC UA Client
- Description: OPC UA (Unified Architecture) is a platform-independent and secure communication protocol that aims at real-time data transmission and enables both data modeling and historization.
- Area of application: Is often used in automation networks to communicate between devices and software from different manufacturers and to integrate them. Also increasingly found in the GA sector.
OPC UA Server (in development - date open, please contact us if required)
- Description: The OPC UA server enables the provision of data for OPC UA clients. The server is currently being prepared in ProMoS NG, but is not yet available in the current version.
- Area of application: Used to provide data from ProMoS NG for other systems and software via OPC UA.
BACnet IP (currently only ProMoS NT - in development for NG - date early 2026)
- Description: BACnet is an open standard protocol for building automation. BACnet IP is the Ethernet-based version of the protocol.
- Area of application: Used specifically for communication and integration of devices and systems in building automation (e.g. heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting and security systems).
SAIA SBus (UDP)
- Description: SAIA SBus is a protocol for communication with the SAIA PLCs (PCD series) and other devices from the manufacturer.
- Field of application: Frequently used for control and automation systems, especially in building automation and for industrial applications.
Beckhoff TwinCat ADS
- Description: TwinCat ADS (Automation Device Specification) is a communication protocol from Beckhoff for interaction with their PLC systems.
- Area of application: Used for communication with Beckhoff PLC systems and for integration into automation networks.
M-Bus
- Description: M-Bus (Meter-Bus) is a European standard for the communication of meters, especially for energy and water meters.
- Area of application: Used to record measurement data from meters in buildings or industrial plants and integrate it into the control and monitoring systems.
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol)
- Description: SNMP is a standard protocol for managing and monitoring network devices.
- Area of application: Used to monitor devices in IP networks, e.g. servers, routers, switches, UPS and other network infrastructure devices.
ESPA 4.4.4. (Windows only)
- Description: The ESPA protocol is a standard for communication with e.g. fire alarm systems.
- Area of application: Fire alarm systems
Mail (Receiving data by e-mail)
- Description: With this driver, e-mails can be received and used for data processing.
- Area of application: Used to extract data or alarms directly from e-mails and integrate them into the system.
IEC 60870-5-104
- Description: IEC 60870-5-104 is an international standard for the remote control and monitoring of power supply networks.
- Area of application: Frequently used in energy supply and in remote monitoring of substations or pumping stations.
KNX (via IP gateway)
- Description: KNX is a globally established standard for building automation that connects a large number of devices.
- Area of application: Used in building automation to automate the control of lighting, heating, blinds and other building technology systems. The connection via an IP gateway enables integration into IP-based networks.
PLC-Handler (Codesys)
- Description: The Codesys PLC handler is a driver for communication with PLCs that use the Codesys programming system.
- Area of application: Used to integrate Codesys-based PLC systems into ProMoS NG and thus enable comprehensive control and monitoring.
Logi.Cals
- Description: Logi.Cals is a system for programming PLC controllers that work on the Logicals basis (Neutron).
- Area of application: Mainly used in automation technology and industrial control to program and integrate control systems.
