ProMoS NG - Hardware requirements

ProMoS NG is a modern, powerful platform for the control, visualization and analysis of processes in automation and building technology. As ProMoS NG can run on various operating systems such as Windows, Linux and even on special devices such as the Raspberry Pi or OpenWRT, the hardware requirements vary depending on the usage scenario and the system used. Nevertheless, it is important to understand the different requirements for the control system (server) and the client (web browser).  

 

Control system server

Hardware requirements

The control system on which ProMoS NG runs requires less powerful hardware than the client. The main focus here is on stability and the ability to manage and process large volumes of data. The requirements for the control system vary depending on the size of the project and the number of instances to be managed simultaneously.

Minimum hardware requirements for the control system:

Processor: At least one dual-core processor (e.g. current ARM processor or Intel Core i3 or comparable), e.g. on a PLC there should be at least 2 cores available for the control system.

RAM: 2 - 4 GB RAM (8 GB or more is recommended for larger projects); 1 GB RAM is sufficient for small projects (e.g. data acquisition).

Hard disk space: At least 50 GB free space on the hard disk for system and project data (depending on the size of the project and data storage requirements, more space may be required, e.g. for historical data).

Network: 1 Gbit/s Ethernet connection for stable and fast communication, especially for larger projects or remote access. 100 Mbit/s is sufficient for PLC controllers.

Operating system: Windows Server (from 2019) or a common Linux distribution (Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.), Raspberry Pi OS or OpenWRT (depending on the project). Can also run as a Docker instance on various operating systems.

 

Recommended hardware requirements for larger control systems:

Processor: Quad-core processor (e.g. Intel i5 or better). Basically: The faster and more cores, the better.

RAM: 8 - 32 GB RAM or more, depending on the size of the project and the number of running instances.

Hard disk storage: SSD with at least 1 TB of free space for fast data access and a large amount of historical data with long data storage.

Network: 1 Gbit/s or fast Ethernet connection.

Operating system: Windows Server (from 2019) or Linux (Ubuntu Server recommended for larger installations).

 

Client (Webbrowser)

Hardware requirements

The hardware requirements for the client (i.e. the web browser used to operate the system) are generally higher than for the actual control system, as the ProMoS NG web interface displays interactive visualizations, diagrams and data analyses in real time. The client can require additional resources, especially for large, dynamic process images and detailed dashboards. The use of remote access and the display of historical data also requires more powerful hardware.

Minimum hardware requirements for the client:

Processor: Modern CPU with at least 4 cores (e.g. ARM, Apple, Intel Core i3 or comparable).

Memory (RAM): 4 GB RAM (8 GB or more is recommended if several dashboards or visualizations are open at the same time).

Graphics card: A GPU with support for hardware acceleration is recommended, especially for displaying dynamic graphics and videos.

Hard disk space: 10 GB of free space for the web browser cache data and local storage of web applications.

Network: A stable Internet connection (min. 10 Mbit/s) for remote access. A faster connection is recommended, especially when using many data points and real-time visualizations.

Operating system: Windows 10/11 or modern Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.), iOS, macOS (current versions), with a modern web browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge.

 

Recommended hardware requirements for the client for intensive use:

Processor: quad-core processor or better (e.g. Intel i5/i7, AMD Ryzen). Apple M2 or higher.

Memory (RAM): 8 GB RAM or more.

Graphics card: Dedicated GPU (e.g. NVIDIA GTX/RTX or AMD Radeon), especially for extensive visualizations.

Hard disk space: SSD with at least 50 GB of free space.

Network: Gigabit Ethernet or fast WLAN for an optimal user experience for remote use.
